A Masked Man, Rotting Bananas and CSA!

I said a LONG time ago that I would write about what a CSA is! Well I am finally getting around to it now! Here is the low down...CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. You can find CSAs (and farmers markets) in your area by going  right here. The farm we get our produce from sells a certain amount of shares each year (in late winter/early spring). We paid $300 for a half share, which means we go to the farm and pick up our box of fresh organic produce once every other week. You can also get a full shares where you get a box each week. This runs from Mid May to early November. Why is a CSA a good thing?
1. Youre supporting your local farmers!
2. Youre helping keep fuel costs down by buying locally.
3. Fresh, Organic produce and you know where its coming from!
4. I love to take Mason to the farm and show him where our food is coming from!

Things to consider...you dont get to pick whats in your box. So I have to plan my meals (and use alot of GOOGLE) after we get our box for the week. I like that it kind of forces us to try new things. But if youre a picky eater this probably isnt for you. If you are interested...definitely check it out in mid January next year! Most farms offer a discounted rate for early birds!

Some of the produce we have had in past boxes this season....lettuces, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, broccoli, fresh eggs, green onions, tomatoes...and my mind is drawing a blank!
Here is what we got this week (plus carrots and tomatoes which I forgot to take pics of!)

I started making dinner for tonight and THEN remembered that I wanted to take pics of our produce this week! FAIL!
This is pork pot roast. Included from our CSA this week are carrots (in the bottom and cannot be seen), red potatoes and onions.

Red potatoes

Eggplant

Also this weekend, I had some WAY TOO RIPE bananas! So Mason and I made banana bread! He was in charge of mashing the bananas which I think is his new favorite past time! ANYTHING messy! haha

AND.....THIS GUY was in my kitchen yesterday! You ask yourself...Are those Thomas the Train Underware? Yes, Yes they are!!!! hahahah
